Creating an Effective Social System- PIE SUPPORT
Ideally, people derive support from friends, family, and professionals- it can be awfully hard to rely on just one person. In many cases, the needs and levels of support a person requires change over time. Finding the right people to provide the level of support needed can be a difficult task. Social support can be provided in a multitude of ways:
- Practical Support (transportation to and from appointments for instance)
- Informational Support (providing guidance, mentorship and insight)
- Emotional Support (someone that can be there for you and not judge you)
Creating an effective support system that is uniquely structured to meet your individual needs is critical for quality care. Being conscious and intentional about understanding your needs and how they shift depending on your wellbeing and fatigue levels can help you build the right team to support you.
A social support system is defined as a group of family members, friends, peers, and professionals who help individuals deal with various challenges and events that a person encounters throughout their life span.
